DIY Toddler Painting

This is such an adorable idea I am so glad I had the kids do it. I originally thought of this idea for my Papa’s Birthday gift and the following week a Mother’s day gift for my Grandma. But it can also be an adorable idea for Father’s day coming up. I really am totally going to make my little artists make a lot more. So the idea is simple and I hope you love it as much as I do. It is great for gifts or for your own home.

What you will need:

  • Canvas(s)
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paint Brushes
  • Letter Stickers

Okay so here is how I did it. I found 2 8 x 10 in. Canvas’s at Walmart that came in a pack. It was like 4 bucks. Totally worth it if you ask me. Now is the fun part. You can use letter stickers or if you have a cutting machine you can use vinyl. Since I have a Cricut I used it to cut out my stickers. Now your ready to put your stickers on your canvas. I tried to used transfer tape. Total fail the vinyl did not stick well. I don’t know what I was thinking but I am here to tell you don’t do it. Okay that is pretty much all you have to do now just get your little artists ready to paint.

So now that your little ones are ready to paint. Give them 1 type of paint I chose 3 colors that went together and used the darkest color first. I first gave them little plastic paint brushes. Once you let them paint all over it. Besides waiting for it to dry or mixing paint colors. Grab your trusty blow dryer and blow dry the canvas until the paint is dry. Now give them back their canvas and have them paint the next layer of paint. I showed them to sort of spread the next color everywhere so they don’t just color over the previous color completely. Repeat the process of drying your canvas and move on to the next color. I did 3 colors because I figured that was enough. Then I let them dry.

I cleaned up the mess and the kids. Once the paint is dry you are going to remove your stickers and there you go.

A great piece of art your tiny one just made. My gosh I cannot get over how adorable these are and how it brings my heart joy my babies took their time, concentrated and made these little master pieces.

I hope you enjoyed this post and make something cute for Father’s Day or just to add to your own home decor or as a gift. I also did this for Mother’s day for my in laws with a giant heart in the middle it turned out so cute and they loved it. Let me know what you think or share your little one’s master piece.
