Hello everyone. I hope your week is going well and you are ready for the weekend!
Today’s post and video will be on DIY String Art with flowers. I basically made the string art design into a flower vase. It was fast and easy and I wanted to share it with you. I wanted to mention I also collaborated with another Youtube Sister Sydney Earle from TheEarle Family. She has a lot of Vlogs and DIY and Mommy life. Which I am totally about. I loved that we did the same exact project but so differently. It is like “virtual craft night” which is always my favorite. So let me first start off by showing how cute her sign came out and in addition her channel info and video so you can see how easy it is.
Here is Syndey’s String art! I love it! It is the perfect small home decor.
Alright so let’s get started on your supplies and how you will make these signs. I will be sharing my supply list and step by step guide.
- Hot Glue Gun
- Drill with small drill bit
- Wooden sign (Wood)
Alright let’s start the process.
Start with your wooden sign. You can get these at Walmart, Joann’s, and Michael’s. They already have wood prepped and ready to work with. So any craft store will have this. Or if your crafty with wood you can cut your wood yourself. So my first step is to have a stencil to trace. You can use a cutting machine to make a stencil or you can simply print and cut something simple online and use that as well. So now your going to tape your stencil onto your wood and trace it with a pencil. After you trace your stencil remove it and the tape. Next use your ruler to go around your drawn on design and you will be measuring where exactly you want your nails and make a mark. I did about every 1/2 inch.
Now this is where the drill comes in. I have done this sign both ways without a drill and with. I find using a drill is a lot more simple and less stressful. Because it gives you a good base to hold your nail rather than winging it. Because I took hours before winging it and I found it difficult and that I never wanted to do this again. But if you’re doing a simple project I would say it is easy to wing but if you’re doing something more complex I would highly suggest using a drill with a drill bit. So now use your drill and drill just a very small amount in the wood don’t go too deep. You will do this on every mark you made where you wanted your nails.
Next step is to insert your nails and start hammering them in. You want to try your best to make them straight and all even. Remember when you have a rounder edge you will need more nails because you want it to be round and not straight.
After all your nails are hammered in. Start with your string. Start to tie a knot and before pulling it, tie the knot on your first nail, make a loop and go to each nail. This is where you will outline your design only. I went thru it twice on the outside of the nail and inside. When you reach the place of your initial start I just tie the end pieces together. I forgot to mention when you start leave a long piece where you start so you can tie it in the end. Once I outlined my design I went in and started creating a design to fill it in. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do this because I liked the simpleness of the mason jar alone but I figured I would do it to show you how it is done. I may take it off and keep the simple mason jar outline. So you start off the same way but just bring the string across and make designs you can do this all crazy you can use more than one color like Sydney did and create some awesome designs.
So as far as the string art you are now done. I added flowers but simply hot gluing them on. And that is the complete step by step process. So I hope you create some awesome designs and please share them. And don’t forget to check out Sydney’s video as well. Have a beautiful day and weekend.
