So as you all know Mother’s day has passed and I did do a couple of projects I am excited to share. I will give you some sneak peaks on the other projects and posts of all Mother’s day projects Because I had to make 3 Mother’s day presents. One for my Mom, Hubby’s Mom and his Step Mom. I was busy. But needless to say they all were unique and I was super proud of them. So first I will give you a sneak Peak.
These were so fun to make and also challenging. I ran into a bunch of problems. But that is why I am here to show you my problems and help you get thru it without the problems. Because not everything is picture perfect the first time. Even though you see all these beautiful projects I can almost guarantee all those projects had many errors before they were perfect. I am new to the whole sign making thing so I am getting past the errors to perfect the next one.
Anyhoo back to business. I am going to be talking about the gold frame I made for my mother. I originally tried to use a old laminate wood frame and spray paint it. Bad Idea. I do not have any pictures of that but the paint would not stick to the laminate wood and looked ugly. So that was a big fail. I was running out of time. So I ran to Walmart and bought a gold frame. For a pretty good price. So here is what you will need.
- Picture Frame
- Gorilla glue
- Hot glue gun
- accessory (flowers, jewels, etc)
- Cutting machine (Silhouette, Cricut)
- Transfer paper or Contact paper(clear)
- Printed pictures of your choice
- Mod Podge
- Big Foam brush
- Small Wooden Letters
- Spray Paint
Yes I know your thinking geez that is a lot, but like I said I compromised last minute. I first wanted to paint the laminate wooden frame gold but like I said did not work so I purchased this frame at Walmart for about 4 bucks. I should’ve bought a more expensive heavy duty one. The reason why is because I wanted to remove the back and didn’t know the whole darn frame was going to fall apart. So I had to fix it. I gorilla glued the outside of the frame back together. I also glued the glass frame to some cardboard pieces inside the frame. Needless to say I was not happy with it. But was down to the day before Mother’s day so I compromised. Once that dried. I then glued the string. As you know from previous signs I have a ton of Jute so that is what I used. I then purchased some flowers I found in the sewing section at Walmart. They were a bit pricey. But I wanted the frame to look nice and not so plain. I then added small wooden letters that said “Mom” I spray painted them as well so they were not so plain. Alright now you are going to need your cutting machine and cut some words out. Every song, quote or anything my Mom says to me and my sister is what I cut out. You want to make sure you measure your letters out to fit across the frame. I love Vinyl I never thought of how awesome it could be. You can use transfer paper to put the Vinyl on or Clear contact paper works as well. You have to put a little for work into the contact paper. But you can get Contact paper at the Dollar Tree for a dollar. Which is a killer deal my friends. So I sometimes find it worth it.
Now that you got your Vinyl all cut out and transfer ed on the frame you are going to get your pictures cut. I kind of guessed how big I wanted them. Where I went wrong was I should have measured them and cut them all the same. If you decide to not take the back out and keep it with a background. You do not have to worry about this step. Or use the Mod podge you can just add the photos to the background instead. But if you are like me and do not use the background your going to need to Mod Podge the pictures onto the frame. You want to add it to the front of the picture and just stick it on. Try to make the Mod Podge as even as possible with one stroke rather than many because it can be seen if you use many strokes. Then slap them bad boys on your frame. I decided after I was finished I could’ve lined everything up better if I used a dry erase marker and measured everything. So I am warning you maybe try using a dry erase marker to line it up evenly. Then that is it you are all done. Simple enough right. (hehe) I guess this depends on what you think is simple.
Well there it is. I really liked how it turned out. I hope my mother liked it as well. We had such a blessed Mother’s day spending it with not only my Mom but my second and third Mom’s out there who mean so much to us. My sweet son always likes to pick our flowers outside and surprised me with that. It is the sweetest and the littlest things that count the most. That boy will steal your heart with his cuteness if you dont watch out. I wanted to share some of those memories. And hope you all had a beautiful Mother’s day. Remember every child longs for their Mother and their comfort is like no other.
I will be posting soon how I did my other signs. So stay tuned and sign up so you know when I do and follow me on my social medias. But most of all give me your feedback. It is how I learn and grow in all this. Anything you want to see? Well my dears have a blessed day.
